Looking back 20+ years later, I realize something important:

Volunteering—especially in community events—isn’t a hobby. It’s a real-world systems lab.

Managing masquerades taught me how to:

• Coordinate logistics under pressure

• Align diverse stakeholders (volunteers, performers, venues, our fans!)

• Adapt in real time when plans break

• Turn chaos into repeatable processes

In today’s digital-first world, physical community still matters. And the data backs it up:

I’ve been applying these lessons in high-stakes community environments—finding the story in the data, improving operations, and making systems work for people.
